Meet Caidy: Spokane’s Sourdough Mompreneur

Caidynce Peck, 22, is a single mom of two boys and a Spokane local through and through. She discovered baking as a way to keep her hands busy while caring for her little ones. “I kept seeing TikTok videos and thought, I think I could do that,” she says. Baking became a simple, hands on hobby she could enjoy even with a toddler and a newborn. Two under two.

Baking has always been part of her life. “My mom was always in the kitchen. She made everything homemade for our birthdays, and that’s something I knew I’d want to provide for my family,” Caidy shares. But it wasn’t until this year that she really dove in, experimenting and learning the craft.

Her first pumpkin inclusion loaf was a hit, and that’s when she realized baking could be more than a hobby, it could be a way to give back to the community. “With everything that’s happened this year with EBT and such, I thought this could be a way to help,” she says. Her biggest challenge? “Getting the recipes and consistency right with my starter. It’s a perfect science, which is why I feel so confident after finishing a good loaf,” she explains.

What makes Caidy’s sourdough special? “They’re made with love, and I keep them affordable to feed the people,” she says. She experiments with flavors inspired by the seasons fall brought pumpkin and apple loaves, and winter might bring peppermint bark. Her personal favorites? “Definitely double chocolate chip or pumpkin spice,” she shares.

She also makes sourdough cookies, which is a whole different process, and her secret ingredient for extra flavor? Cocoa powder!

Caidy’s bread has been met with warmth by her community. “The feedback has been amazing, and I even started an Instagram account recently. Before that, I was just selling by word of mouth,” she says. While she hasn’t yet collaborated with other local businesses or farmers, it’s something she’s excited to explore. “Being in an area like Nine Mile gives me a real sense of community. Supporting small businesses is so important to me,” she adds.

Baking has changed Caidy’s daily life. “It’s made me so much happier and given me a way to step out of my own head for a bit. As a mom, it’s easy to get stuck doing everything for your kids and nothing for yourself. Finding a hobby like this is so important,” she says.

Her inspiration comes from wanting to give back and feed people. “I’ve seen people go through hard times when it comes to food. Especially right now, it’s important to bake and feed people,” she explains.

Her advice to anyone starting a food business? “Do it! You’ll never know unless you put your foot in,” she says. Looking ahead, Caidy hopes to grow her business, turn it into a full-time job, and host events to give back to Spokane’s homeless community.
